What are Hawaii’s COVID vaccine and testing requirements?

US Citizens who are vaccinated

Vaccinated US citizens can enter Hawaii with simply a proof of negative COVID test within 24 hours of boarding their flight. Vaccinated citizens can enter via domestic or international routes.

US Citizens who are unvaccinated

Unvaccinated US citizens can only enter Hawaii if they are entering from an international flight. In addition, unvaccinated US citizens entering Hawaii from an international route must provide a negative COVID test within 24 hours of flight boarding.

Yup, that’s right: Unvaccinated US citizens can not enter Hawaii domestically. To travel domestically to Hawaii, you must be vaccinated.

International, Non-US Citizens who are vaccinated

Just like US citizens, vaccinated international travelers are welcome to Hawaii as long as they provide a negative COVID test within 24 hours of boarding.

International, Non-US Citizens who are unvaccinated

Unvaccinated international travelers are not currently allowed to enter Hawaii, unfortunately.

Which COVID test do I need to enter?

Hawaii is very strict about which COVID test types they accept for entrance. Luckily, TestNearMe.org has build the most comprehensive list of Hawai–Friendly COVID testing options.

In general, a PCR test is required from a leading testing institution. At home Antigen or NAAT tests are likely not permissible for entrance to Hawaii.

You likely do not need to quarantine upon entering Hawaii. All travelers’ temperatures are checked upon entrance. Anyone with a temperature above 100.4 degrees F OR displaying COVID symptoms will need to perform additional health checks by trained health care personnel at the airport. At their discretion, you may be forced to quarantine as soon as you leave the airport.

Additionally, if you enter Hawaii from a cross pacific route and do not arrive with a valid negative COVID test from an approved Hawai Trusted Testing Partner, or you are not fully vaccinated, you will be subject to the compulsory five day quarantine.
